The Vale is quite well served by Vale First Responders – we have 10 defibrillators across the Vale and we respond to about 20 calls a month, some of those in your village.  EMAS will mobilise whichever responder is able to get to the scene first.  With more Responders based in Kinoulton, we could do so much more as we are less well represented in that area of the Vale, and end up travelling from neighbouring villages to an incident scene.  We are a friendly bunch of people just like you, so don’t be shy, think about having a chat with us.

First responders are local people just like you, who help provide emergency life-saving care to patients. CFR Groups are charities founded and run by volunteers who give up a bit of their spare time to attend appropriate 999 calls directed through East Midlands Ambulance Service control.

The on-call CFR is dispatched by EMAS at the same time as an ambulance response and because by definition they live in the local area where the incident has taken place, they can be first on the scene providing essential treatment, while ambulance crews travel to the scene. Although CFR’s have none of the emergency service privileges on the road and we drive at normal road speeds, we are literally sometimes just around the corner.

Why do we have a Cadet scheme? The purpose of the programme is to increase engagement between the force and those aged between 16 and 18 and provide a route into volunteering. A two-year training and development programme will begin in September 2013 and give participants the opportunity to pick up new skills, take part in exciting activities, and gain valuable volunteering experience.

What does a Cadet do? 

• Cadets will take part in team building exercises, sports activities, and have the opportunity to learn about specialist police units.

• Cadets will be expected to volunteer four hours a month to help the police in attending public events and delivering crime prevention initiatives.

• Cadets must commit to meeting once a week where they will learn about a range of topics including; police history, first aid, conflict management skills, and campaigns.

Where will Cadets be based? 
Cadets will be based in three areas, Nottingham, Newark/Worksop and Mansfield. The scheme will be delivered from bases within those local communities. There will be 90 Cadets – 60 in Nottingham, 15 in the Newark/Worksop area and 15 in Mansfield.

What will a Cadet wear? 
There will be one uniform and Cadets will be expected to wear it when on duty, except when undertaking various outward bound/sports activities.

How to apply 
Application forms will be available in May. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit www.nottinghamshire.police.uk for updates. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview. All candidates successful at interview will have to pass the vetting process in order to be offered a place on the scheme.

Last year nearly £14,000 was raised towards the new toilet block with disabled facilities for the Village Hall, Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough and village groups despite the bad weather.
